First Responders
The bulk of Aubrey Van Houtven’s clinical training toward independent licensure was completed working directly with veterans and military reserve members. This training involved thousands of hours of clinical work, including diagnostic assessments, intakes, treatment planning, and comprehensive clinical evaluations. Aubrey’s experience emphasizes military-informed care, cultural competency, and trauma-responsive approaches tailored to the unique experiences of service members and veterans.
Yes. Aubrey has extensive experience working with survivors of Military Sexual Trauma (MST) and has worked alongside university-level researchers to present research, clinical studies, and psychoeducation focused on MST. This work prioritizes trauma-informed, evidence-based approaches that account for military culture, power dynamics, and systemic barriers to care.
Yes. Aubrey served as the Lead Workshop Presenter at the 2024 National Sexual Assault Conference in Washington, D.C. The workshop, titled “An Allied Front: Strengthening Civilian Support for MST Survivors through Military-Informed Healing,” focused on strengthening civilian clinician competence when working with military-affiliated clients. During this presentation, Aubrey provided clinician training on trauma-informed approaches for MST survivors and shared best practices for supporting military-affiliated clients with an audience of 75+ professional attendees.
Aubrey is not currently contracted to provide community-based care through the Department of Veterans Affairs. However, an application is actively pending, and Aubrey continues to maintain military-informed training and clinical practices consistent with VA-aligned standards of care.
